This mini lathe version will hollow about 5" deep without too much chatter. The lazer light held in the wood clamp on the upper arm is adjusted to indicate the thickness of the sides of the hollow vessel remaining. You can see the cutting action by watching the lazer light on the outside of the hollow vessel. A very smooth wall can be obtained. I have sanded with 150, 220, 320, 400 and 3M sequence of sandpapers and totally eleminated any tool marks inside a vessel.
