This aluminum idler pulley was cut from a cylinder on the metal lathe.   After it was cut off the piece of stock, it was mounted on the midi wood lathe and the back side turned with a regular high speed steel bowl gouge.   It cut much like any hardwood like dry hickory and left a very smooth mirror like finish.   The ornamental flame design was cut with the Rose Engine.
